Building Awareness of Mental Illness and Suicide
October 13th, 2009 @ 8:00
So often mental illness and suicide are
never talked about and people are left to struggle in silence.
It takes courage to bring these issues out of the
shadows. Mandi
Siatkowski is the courageous voice of Get Grounded, a benefit
concert celebrating her brother’s life.
On October 14th, 2004, Mandi
lost her brother to suicide.
In Mandi’s own words: “My brother Daniel was a
beautiful person, a sensitive soul and my best friend.”
To mark the 5-year anniversary of her
family’s loss, Mandi has organized this benefit concert for
CMHA Toronto and our work to support people living with mental
illness. She has
arranged a lineup of exciting Canadian musicians.
She will be sharing the stage with Canadian artists
Grainne Ryan, Darryl Costello, and Roma Page.
Collectively, these artists have been influenced by
Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Sheryl Crow, Radiohead and Peter
Gabriel.
Please join us, for a night of music and
celebration.
Together,
we can build awareness of mental health and suicide issues.

The
Ride for Mental Health is over, but the work continues on!
After
103 days and 7587 km. Mel Thompson finally
dipped the wheels of his bike into the Atlantic Ocean on Saturday August 29th in
St. John’s
Newfoundland
. Although the
Ride has now been completed, the challenge of raising
awareness and dispelling stigma is still very much on the
agenda for the Thompson family.

Thompson family are involved in click onto:

Holiday Gift Program
Each holiday season, CMHA Toronto’s Holiday Gift Program
provides more than 6,300 gifts to men, women and teens, as
well as 300 children whose parents are recovering from mental
illness. Now in
its 53rd year, our program is unique in that every
dollar donated goes directly to the purchase of the gifts.
Every $22 you donate purchases one gift for someone
recovering from mental illness.
Together, we can turn a black and white holiday season
into living colour for those recovering from mental illness in
our community.
